With over 30,000 runners setting off from Blackheath Common in the south of London, all bright eyed, bushy tailed and feeling a little nervous about the 26.1 mile course that lies between them and the final finish line, this historic event will be cheered on by thousands of supporters whilst raising millions of pounds for all sorts of worthy causes.
Amongst the throng will a super special lady close to the heart of our very own CEO Emma O’Brien.
Annie Anderson, an intensive care nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich and mother of 2, will be running the gruelling event to raise awareness and bucketloads of cash for the only UK charity of its kind, Young Epilepsy.
Emma and Annie have been the best of friends for over 25 years and when Annie won her ballot place to run the London Marathon this year, her chosen charity was a no brainer after her best friends’ son was diagnosed with epilepsy 2 years ago.
Annie said “that when Leo was diagnosed, they discovered there is a “startling” lack of support for families with children like him as they come to terms with an epilepsy diagnosis and the practicalities of living with the condition”
Young Epilepsy is the ONLY charity in the UK to provide many invaluable services for children suffering from epilepsy, including a helpline for parents, training for teachers and carers, support for teenagers in finding further education and work placements, plus much needed research into the debilitating condition.
Annie is itching to get off the starting line with already over £4000 raised in sponsorship, not to mention the miles and miles of training she has racked up under her skinny little belt.

This remarkable lady has not only given up smoking, drinking, precious time with her family and pushed her body to the limit with the training, but has also still managed to find the time to bang the gong continually for the Young Epilepsy cause whilst looking after the very sick in her day to day job.
