However, Embridge first and foremost prides itself on its team. Simply put, without a cohesive, focused, passionate team, there would be no successes.

With an exponential growth of a huge 34% in recruitment in the past 6 months, this year’s annual team building event was going to be an important marker as to how fruitful our new investments were working out and how much we actually liked each other!

This year’s team build focused on team development, including Personality tests using the Carl Jung model and HPT (High Performance Teams).

Discovering what makes us tick as individuals and how we react in certain situations can be a powerful tool when it comes to the workplace. Having a better understanding of what presses our buttons and more importantly what pushes our colleagues, is an enlighteningly and surprising activity!

Many of us were amused and surprised by our own personality results and yet easily recognised many of the identified traits and behaviours described in the people we work with.

Slightly unnerving, sometimes completely alien (gasps of ‘is that really me?’), were quickly followed up with absolute and sound examples of exacting behaviour from the very same colleagues we sat alongside. It was a sobering and illuminating experience!

Now that we had the measure of each other it was time to figure out how we rubbed alongside one another.

So how do we build a High Performing Team and exactly how long is it going to take?

The value of an HPT has long been recognised and as this topic’s importance gathers momentum with digital technology reshaping the concept of our workplace and how we get our work done; how can we ensure that we are getting the most out of our teams?

The dream is to achieve our very own HPT. High performing teams bring success, achievement, efficiency and excellent interpersonal relationships. Highly focused on goals and superior business results, what’s not to want?

However, building a team remains as tough as ever. Energetic, ambitious, and capable people are always a plus, but they often represent different functions, products, lines of business, or geographies and can vie for influence, resources, and promotion. With our leadership roles becoming more demanding and increasingly important, given these challenges, creating and maintaining a top team performance is a timeless business preoccupation.
