The challenge

RSBG UK is always looking over the horizon.

A defining vision is to streamline and accelerate everyday processes, making it simpler for customers and employees to engage and transact with the organisation. Following feedback from enterprise resource planning (ERP) users, RSBG UK identified an opportunity to re-imagine the user experience (UX) for the company’s Project Managers.

“We wanted to simplify the end-to-end project management journey, delivering a great UX – from opportunity management through to active project management,” says Vishal Pandya, Head of ERP at RSBG UK.

“However, we were reluctant to customise the existing Unit4 ERP application owing to the potential downstream impact on cost, time and strategic migration options in the future.”

The solution

The team was open to looking outside Unit4: exploring an augmented solution that uses the best of the ERP solution and, where feasible, existing product licenses.

Any solution would need to include automation to enhance the UX, as well as speed up the processes around setting up opportunities and risk assessments. The new application also needed to integrate seamlessly with the existing Unit4 deployment ensuring data could be entered once and populate multiple instances.

RSBG UK engaged with Embridge Consulting to explore ways to re-invent business processes through the innovative use of technology, with a laser focus on delivering value to their customers and a consistently rewarding UX.

Working shoulder-shoulder with RSBG UK, Embridge successfully developed two proof-of-concept (POC) apps, featuring a simplified and enhanced user interface (UI). Both leveraged Unit4 APIs and the Microsoft Power Platform, a set of low-code tools for building apps, workflows, and data analytics. The apps:

  • Support RSBG UK Project Managers in creating and updating opportunities
  • Enable RSBG UK employees to request to buy/sell annual leave  

 

Embridge were continually thinking what was best for RSBG UK. For example, they recommended we used Microsoft Power Platform – a low-code, no-code platform. That way we make use of our existing licenses and have the flexibility to customise the platform ourselves in-house, at lower cost.

The result

With these forward-thinking apps, RSBG UK and Embridge have transformed the UX for project managers.

The innovative solution also future proofs a potential migration journey to Unit4 cloud and ERPx. The POC has demonstrated how RSBG UK can:

  • Streamline the opportunity and risk assessment set up process
  • Create an enhanced UX and a unique, simplified, and branded UI
  • Eliminate the costs, risk, and time associated with Unit4 customisation
  • Establish a blueprint for other use cases moving forward, especially around employee forms

Based on this success, we now have the green light to move these apps into full production. This is a hallmark of the Embridge partnership – the team has almost become part of our organisation, proactively helping RSBG UK to think differently, de-risk the strategy, and always focus on the end result. This is the ‘art of the possible’ in motion.
