While it was good, it was great, but it’s time to move on from AG16s

Dear Agresso AG16,
As I sit down to write this letter, my heart is heavy with emotion. You have been a part of my life for so long, and it’s difficult to imagine moving forward without you. But the time has come for us to part ways, and I want to express my gratitude for all that you’ve done for me.
I remember the first time I met you. You were so shiny and new, with all your bells and whistles. You promised to make my life easier, and, for a while, you did. You were my go-to database management script, my rock. I relied on you to keep my data organised and secure, and you never let me down (apart from those times where I forgot the ‘Where’ clause and you deleted all those records from that customer production system… I am still paying the insurance fee… 15 years later).
But, over time, I’ve realised that we were growing apart. You couldn’t keep up with my needs, and I found myself looking for more. The world is changing rapidly, and I need a system that can keep up with the demands of today’s data-driven world – leaner JSON and strong APIs, that handles objects in an abstract way that you never could.
Please don’t think that I don’t appreciate all that you’ve done for me. You’ve helped me navigate through tough times and you never failed to deliver. You were my go-to for everything and anything data-related. You were a reliable system that stood the test of time. I still remember how I could INSERT and UPDATE almost anything in Agresso… And how proud I was when others looked at you and said: “WOW!! This thing is HUGE!!!”
But the world has moved on, and I need something more modern, something that can help me grow and evolve. I know it’s not entirely your fault, AG16. You were built for a different time, a time when SQL was king. You were the best option available, and you served your purpose well. However, as time progressed and new technologies have developed, it’s become apparent that I need to move on.
I will always remember you fondly, AG16. You were my first love in the world of databases, and you will always have a special place in my heart. You helped me through countless projects where everything seemed impossible to fix, and you were always there to lend a helping hand. I will never forget the way you made me feel, the way you always put my needs first. And our time abroad together – not just HOL1, but also HOL2… Great holidays…
But it’s time for me to say goodbye. It’s time for me to explore new technologies, to find something that can help me continue to grow and evolve. I will never forget you, AG16, and I will always be grateful for all that you’ve done for me.
With love and gratitude,
You former admirer
