The App Studio Introduction workshop is designed to give participants practical knowledge of Unit4 App Studio, the low-code application builder built into the Extension Kit platform.

Summary

App Studio enables teams to build custom user-facing screens directly within the Unit4 ecosystem, without writing application code. Delegates will gain hands-on experience building a working app against a live ERPx or ERP CR environment, learning the core concepts and patterns that underpin every App Studio application. We will require Extension Kit to be enabled, and access provided beforehand so we can complete basic environment preparation.

Learning outcomes

An interactive session that introduces the core concepts of App Studio and demonstrates how custom screens can extend the Unit4 platform. The workshop covers the App Studio interface, app types, components, resources, and logic wiring. Delegates will follow a guided exercise and build their own working app with a live data connection, leaving them with the core building blocks to take with them and apply. Whether that means identifying processes within their organisation that could benefit from a custom screen, or providing a foundation to begin building independently, delegates will leave with a clear understanding of what App Studio can do and the confidence to take their next step.

Delegate pre-requisites

  • Good technical understanding of Unit4 ERPx or ERP CR
  • Attendance at the Embridge Unit4 Extension Kit Enablement workshop, or equivalent working knowledge of Extension Kit flows
  • Extension Kit enabled on your Unit4 environment with access confirmed prior to the session

Who is it for?

  • Application Consultant
  • Technical Support
  • Application Support
  • System Administrator

  • How App Studio fits within the Extension Kit platform and when to use it over standard ERP configuration
  • The three types of app: Standalone, Business Screen, and System
  • Core vocabulary: Apps, Screens, Components, Canvas, Resources, Logic flow, and Logic map
  • How resources connect an app to ERPx or ERP CR data, and the difference between manual wiring and auto-fire via dependency
  • Hands-on guided build: a working app with a live ERPx data connection built from scratch

Course Structure

Session 1

We begin with an overview of where App Studio sits within the Unit4 platform and when it is the right tool to extend your ERP environment. We introduce the three app types and the core vocabulary delegates will need to follow the rest of the session.

Session 2

A walkthrough of the App Studio interface covering the four key surfaces: Canvas, Resources, Logic flow, and Logic map. We introduce the fundamental pattern that underpins every app and explain the difference between components, resources, and the wiring that connects them.

Session 3

The guided build exercise. Starting from a blank app, delegates build a working screen step by step, connecting it to live data from their ERP environment. Each step is completed together before moving on, ensuring everyone leaves with a working app rather than a half-finished example.

Session 4

We close with publishing, versioning, and distribution; covering how to make an app available to end users, how to deploy it as a screen inside your ERP system, and how to move apps between environments. We signpost the Unit4 documentation and discuss what delegates could look to build next.
